Jeff's Home Page

Geek page

This is my page which will be filled with all things technical. Computer links, notes, digital photography, anything "GEEK." I feel this page will be important, as I find links for free software that can make your computers safer. See what I have and use what you can.

This is a fantastic program (and it's FREE). It automatically reads any new pictures everytime you start it (you can also exclude folders or drives). You can view all the images at once as thumbnails, organize folders, make very basic edits, and burn directly to CD's. This is the new version, I am downloading it as I type. MUST HAVE!

This program is a FREE Anti-Virus that the editors of Maximum PC called "one of the best ..." Currently catalogs over 80'000 infections.

This is a link to Spybot. It is a FREE program that is used to fight off spyware and adware. Spyware can be very damaging to a system without even showing any overt symptoms. I use two different programs and run them both at least once a week, or everytime I download anything off the internet from any questionable source.

This is Zone Alarm. This is a FREE firewall that is atleast as good as the free firewall that comes with windows Xp, and maybe better.

This is Ad-Ware. This is an extremely effective program that will scan and remove Spyware and Adware from your computer. Like most of these programs, it is FREE.

This is a link to the Firefox web browser and Thunderbird mail service. If you hate pop-ups, get Firefox and dump Internet Explorer. I have had a couple of odd glitches in this brand new version, but keep checking for updates and it will get fixed quick. If you use Microsoft Outlook, Thunderbird replaces it. You can search you emails for keywords or set up filters to help destroy spam.

This is Exact Audio Copy. You can use it to rip music of a CD that is damaged. In other words, if you have a CD that skips or doesn't play correctly, this can (usually) copy it correctly onto your computer. If it can't be done, the software will tell you that it can't be recovered. FREE

(To use an icon, right click on the old icon, go to "properties" and click on the "customize" tab. Then at the bottom is change icons. You just need to put the icons in a folder someplace you can find, but won't get moved around.
